Kitten Brigade Sign Ups
garreth — Mon, 09/15/2008 - 13:00
Yep. This is our first 25-man raid, post Wrath release; five weeks after release, to be exact.
So you want to be a part of it, do you? No, really, are you sure? I'll wait for you to think about it because I'm not fucking around in Wrath. Get ready to dance.
First let me rant: Hamfist has replaced roughly 75% of it's raiders over the lifetime of it's BC raiding career, most of those people multiple times, and I know that LF1M is in a similar boat (WTB shadow priests). It slowed us down, caused us frustration and generally resulted in a whole lot of un-fun fucking around. The gear drain we faced from people coming in for a few weeks/months, soaking up some gear and then leaving absolutely gimped us.
I have vowed to avoid that in our Wrath raid. What does this mean to you? It means both the Hamfist and the LF1M raids are being dissolved and new raids will rise from their ashes. It also means you might get to see some massively progressive content if you can meet the new, very strict standards.
This event sign up is just for the FIRST raid that we'll form in Wrath. This raid runs four nights a week, about 4 hours a night. The SECOND raid will start five weeks after this one (late January) and will raid on a lighter schedule, 3 nights a week. But don't let the lighter schedule fool you. You'll be held to the same standards as the first raid.
So, you want to be a part of our Naxx-stomping first raid? Then you gotta commit. Hard. Here's what we're looking for.
Attendance, attendance, attendance
Gone are the days of our "Tuesday-only" raiders, or whatever. I'm sorry, but my days as Schedule Master to pander to 10 different raiders that can all only raid one or two days a week are gone. I won't do it. Instead, this raid will be full of people who WILL make all days. If you have a rough schedule, please consider the other raid or a lighter 10-man course in the expansion. Our raiders will ABSOLUTELY be held to their attendance. So it's clear: you commit 100% to four nights a week or don't sign up.
You WANT to be there
Are you the guy that always wants to end early or pass on the one last shot? Do you hate logging in on raid nights? Do you immediately switch to an alt after you're done raiding on your main because you "hate your main"? K. I don't want you in this raid. I want 25 people that fucking LOVE raiding. I want 25 people that are SEXUAL about their raiding. You gotta love this and:
You gotta be GOOD
No, really. The game's been out for fucking four years. If you can't figure out how to play your class by now... this is not the place to learn. I need people that can talk theorycraft about theirs and others' classes. I need people that can troubleshoot a mod on the fly. I need people that CAN MACRO A FUCKING HEALTHSTONE (/rant). The people in this raid will do everything they can to gain an advantage in endgame.
You gotta be SMART
Good and smart are two different things. Basically, read the goddamn strat before you walk in and understand your job ahead of time.
Adults Only
No, I'm not going to be a dick about age limits. However, I'm sick of raiding with children with ADD. Though I consider both raids to be pretty good about this, I still have whiners and annoying fucking kids that take up my time and screech into their mics about bullshit that should be typed and not screamed across vent. No more, this is the raid where I get to be rid of you. So, consider this: Do you annoy me right now? Do you think I'm going to give you a raid spot in Wrath with your current behavior?
Should you be raiding? Really?
Are you in a position of massive change and turmoil in your life? Do you have to AFK during every trash pull for some family emergency or another? Are you close to getting fired from work because of your raiding? SHOULD YOU REALLY BE DOING THIS? This raid is for people that have specifically set aside the time and resources to commit. Yes, I said commit. We like to pretend that commitment is a dirty word in WoW, but the lack thereof has fucked us repeatedly in the last year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to retire
Wrath is an excellent opportunity to retire from raiding. I recommend that all people who would like a clean break from raiding take this opportunity to step down. You get to go out as a hero, a legend to us all and someone who completely fulfilled their obligations to their guild and raid. You will not be letting anyone down, this is the perfect time to do so.
Switching to a new main and raiding
It's also great time to switch to an alt (new main) full time. However, there are consequences. Let me explain: If I've been raiding with a player on their main for the better part of three years, I know what I can expect from them. I know they'll perform. However, if they make the decision to switch toons, they'll most likely lose their raid spot to a main that stayed. Thems the breaks, kids. You are more than welcome to switch toons in Wrath, but your raid spot might not follow you.
That said, if you can meet these very strict guidelines, I want you to sign up for this event. Expect to show up on the toon you list. This raid will be very progression focused. We'll move fast and hard. We are friends and we'll have fun, but we'll be taking a lot of the fucking around out of our raid.
I wish you all luck on getting in to this run. I expect the absolute best out of you and I promise to show you the best raiding that Wrath has to offer. I consider all of you friends, but there are only 25 spots available. We'll be doing this again for the second raid when it gets ready to fire up. Good luck.
Update: As we get closer and closer to this date, I'll be pulling people aside in vent to talk to them personally about where they are at. Expect the conversation to be blunt as I tell you about all the things that annoyed me about you over the last year of your time in Downfall and in raid. We'll go over the good points too, but those tend not to offend people. Be prepared.

It is YOUR job to be read up and experienced before we get in tonight. We're moving quite fast.
If you'd like, Garreth, I can
Shihli — Tue, 12/02/2008 - 14:54If you'd like, Garreth, I can take the "Captain's Seat" for the night/raid week - and only this once - to get people familiarized with the content.
Granted, there's going to be more (and harder) trash, the bosses will have more health and in some cases, more abilities - but having fully cleared Naxx-10 twice now, I think I can safely say that I have a firm grasp on what we can expect.
Guess I should quickly
Alydis — Tue, 12/02/2008 - 04:18Guess I should quickly mention what I'm doing, and what I'm not doing while I remember =P
Firstly, what I am doing. I am going to be online, online regularly, and eager to participate in virtually everything. I levelled ret and am enjoying it FAR too much right now and as such do not intend to change back to full-time healing in the near future, 'though I am willing to respec healy or tanky to help people out. I have decent-to-good gear for everything and am working on improving it all.
What I am not going to be doing... Well, raiding 25-mans. Not for lack of wanting to, availability or anything like that, but until I feel like I can fully trust my internet again I'm just not going to waste my time or anybody else's. I may try subscribing to one of those wow-net-tunneling sites just to see if it makes a serious difference to my performance and if so you may see me back.
All the best in clearing out endgame guys ^_^
SSSSLLLLOOOOOWWWWW signing up-

Pedran — Tue, 12/02/2008 - 06:44I can't say as I know the link, but Wrath Raid 2 sign-ups are already going. Raid 1 already has a full schedule (though will always need alts/fill-ins). If you want a guranteed Raid spot though, you are better off signing up for Atar's Raid 2 in January now.

lesda — Mon, 12/01/2008 - 10:11"By the hair of my chinny chin, chin",...
Just turned 79 last night (11/30) -- gonna do my darnest to get to 80 ,... :)
I'm dropping from this signup
jaibyrd — Fri, 11/28/2008 - 22:22I'm dropping from this signup now because I will not be ready by the Dec 3-4 dates. I was not expecting that so did not spend the first couple of weeks just lvling. I was/ am/ will be prepared for a mid / end of Dec start so I'm off the raid one list i guess.
As long as there are 25
garreth — Fri, 11/28/2008 - 17:10As long as there are 25 people that want to raid, there will be a raid. That said, I have always been sensitive to the needs of our guildies, whether they be hardcore or otherwise. Hence, why we have a second raid scheduled at a later date, catering directly to those guildies that feel the first raid is "moving too fast." The first raid is for the fast (and, yes, a little psycho) raiders. Second raid is for the normal raiders. Anyone left feeling alienated who isn't 80 by mid-January is simply whining and/or really shouldn't be raiding.
Pulling my name from this.
Kybosh — Thu, 11/27/2008 - 23:26Pulling my name from this. With the Kiddo there's just no way I can reliably commit to this and still feel like a decent person.
I'd still love to help out when needed and things may change in the future, but with the change of date to December 4th and the fast pace that a lot of people seem to be going at just doesn't sit well with me. I find myself getting stressed out trying find a way to keep up. I wonder how many others feel the same way. I hate to see good, committed, long term guildies being left behind because they're lives won't allow them to reach raiding status within the first two-and-half weeks after Wrath comes out. It seems a shame.
I want to enjoy this game, and take the time to experience it at my own pace. It seems my goals and the goals of the raiding members of this guild no longer mesh well. There was once a time when it wasn't as important how fast we accomplished something, as it was that we accomplished it. Competition has never been my thing. That's why I loved raiding. The only person you're competing with is yourselves, and its done through teamwork.
Anyway, I'm not trying to bitch (too much). I applaude those of you who want to be on the cutting edge of end game content, and I wish you all the best of luck. I'll still be on, and I'm always willing to contribute in whatever form I can.
-Kybosh.
Ky, I fully understand a lot
starstalker — Fri, 11/28/2008 - 17:54Ky, I fully understand a lot of your frustrations. I share some of them too. But Its good that you'll be focusing on your little one.
Good luck to ya man.
The raid is moving as fast as
Shihli — Fri, 11/28/2008 - 00:22The raid is moving as fast as the raiders are. And you'd be correct - the "goals of the raiding members" have gone a different direction than those of you and Karli.
You two have a newborn child to tend to. That's WAAAAAAAAAAY more important than raiding.
And don't forget, we're not competing with everyone - all of the 25-man and 10-man content has been cleared, even on our server, already.
I have cancelled my signup
Dragonspear — Tue, 11/25/2008 - 05:46I have cancelled my signup for this raid in the event that A. its starting during finals and B. in case school does get hectic next semester.
I will still be willing to fill in when you need people as I did in Hamfist, but I believe that in order to raid while still being in school I will be better off only raiding 3 days a week.
That being said, Ag and Shin, I fully expect an Arthas video when you down him!
10 mans were great...
Desteran — Sun, 11/23/2008 - 02:43It felt good to do some raiding again in 10mans. I cant wait til we are able to throw 25 ppl at this shit.
Raid 1 Startup Date MOVED
garreth — Tue, 11/18/2008 - 10:23I've moved this up a full two weeks. We're still technically "starting later" than most "hardcore" guilds, but that's how Df rolls.
So mark down this date: Tuesday, December 4. That's our first night of official, four-night a week raiding. It's looking like it's going to much, much less than four nights at this rate!
We'll rapidly move on to Obsidian Sanctum (easy mode first, then hard mode), then Malygos.
I'm commited on my Hunter. I
Drewsta — Mon, 11/17/2008 - 10:18I'm commited on my Hunter. I know I won't raid but if Ya'll need me hit me up.
I'm considering bumping up
garreth — Mon, 11/17/2008 - 09:43I'm considering bumping up the first 25-man raid date to December 3rd or 4th. We'll have a LOT of people 80 by then, and more than geared enough.
Raid Comp & Paladins
Dragonspear — Mon, 11/17/2008 - 07:59This is mainly aimed at Garreth and other raiding paladins both looking to raid in R1 as well as the possible 3 day/3 hour raid.
Since this raid will be about min maxing stats it looks likely that both the Retribution Paladin and the Holy Paladin will have to take kings.
That being said Garreth, I sincerely believe we might want to add a prot paladin to the group as well for the following reasons:
A. Blessing of Sacrifice for our tanks will prove to be huge, especially when learning fights.
B. Your 3 hunters, your Enhancement Shaman and your Ret Paladin would all love to have Kings, Might and Wisdom.
That being said, I suppose the Blessings at the moment look as follows (This is provided that both the ret paladin and the prot paladin take kings).
Warriors: Kings/Might (net AP gain of 2 AP with might over battleshout)
Rogues: Kings/Might
DKs: Kings/Might
Mages: Wisdom/Kings
Warlocks: Wisdom/Kings
Priests: Wisdom/Kings
Hunters: Might/Kings
Shaman: Wisdom(from the holy paladin)/Kings(from the ret paladin)
*Enhancement Shaman: 10 Minute Might(From Ret)/10 Minute Kings(From Holy)*
Druids: Wisdom/Kings
*Feral Druid: 10 Minute Might/10 Minute Kings)
Paladin: Holy (30 minute wisdom/10 minute Kings)
Paladin: Ret (30 minute might/10 minute Kings)
Alternatively you can have your fury warrior use battleshout, but you are then suffering a minor AP loss.
/end random thoughts from work
Edit: also according to elitist jerks, your ret paladin (even if you have a prot paladin present) is your best paladin to have Judge Light since they are most likely to have the highest combination of AP/SP and thus will yield the highest returns on JoL. This does however mean that at least the ret paladins Hand of Salvation will be almost exclusively used on himself to manage threat.
In relation to a tankadin
Pedran — Mon, 11/17/2008 - 09:50In relation to a tankadin Judging Light vs a Retadin Judging Light it is going to come down to a threat-race when you have both.
Based on the new build, JoL gives threat directly to the person who judges it. For a tankadin raid-80 ready this will be roughly 300-700 threat per second. However, for a Retadin judging, it will be 300-700 heals per second, nearly twice the AOE free-healing from the tankadin.
Fork and I argued for a bit, but I am not sure what the turning point is on who should judge. I think in the end it will fall to the tankadin's gear level and threat-gen from his(her) other sources. Even while silenced the tankadin will still have Hammer of the Righteous and Shield Slam (Shield of Righteousness). Thus threat can be maintained with a high-dps weapon, since all of the raid-80 tanking gear will have a pile of Strenght on it (2 AP per, .5 additional block value per).
After the tankadin has reached a gear level sufficient enough to maintain judgeing wisdom, etc instead of Light it will then fall on the gear level and the ability of the retadin to watch Omen very closely. 300-700 TPS from healing will be directed straight at the Retadin from this. The healing will be very good for melee classes, especially rogues, since as the raid progesses gear-wise the healing per second (swing timers counted) will be roughly 700-1200, but that is ALOT of threat directed completely at the Retadin. Thus the Retadin will be using Salv almost exclusively on him(her)self.
However, in answer to Fork's post of adding in tankadin's to the Raid 1 evaluation, Bear-Tanks and Death-Tanks currently scale faster on gear progression than both warriors and protadins. My guess for Raid 1 tank(s) will most likely be DKs/Bears due to not only survivability, but also versatility.
Poor Warriors. They got shafted in wrath. "Oh, we get AOE! ..... .... And?"
And they got vigiliance
Dragonspear — Mon, 11/17/2008 - 10:11And they got vigiliance
I would kill to find a way to
Grasen — Mon, 11/17/2008 - 08:13I would kill to find a way to have wisdom as well on the hunters. I havent looked at gear much for 80 raiding but with current gear setup(t6), mana is an issue for me. I spend far more time then i would like popping into viper.
If there isnt more mp5 on lvl 80 hunter gear I am hard pressed to chosse between kings and wisdom. I honestally think the wisdom would carry me further. We'll see how it all works out when i hit 80.
On a side note I have reached 800 hk's since x-pac. Ichareus Got to be lucky #800. Shooting for a goal of 3000 before 80.
I'm finally adding my name to
karlizeth — Sat, 11/15/2008 - 18:04I'm finally adding my name to this list, as I didn't think it would be a fair thing to presume that I could commit to the time needed until after I got a real taste of what life after baby was like. However, now that I'm actually in it, I do think the logistics are going to work well for us. I've already figured out ways to let baby nap on my lap while working at the computer (thanks to an awesome pillow) and more importantly, we are already seeing successes in his ability to nap in a crib and move toward a bit of a schedule when it comes to eating/sleeping/awake time.
If anything changes between now and the actual start of raids of course I will keep you posted, but for the time being I am being cautiously optimistic that if things stay their course they will work out quite well!
Assuming I get the classes
Dragonspear — Thu, 11/13/2008 - 07:27Assuming I get the classes I want after talking with my academic advisor yesterday I SHOULD be able to raid this spring. That being said, certain guildies may be called upon for help with Spanish depending on whether or not I actually manage to pick it up.
Course List is as follows:
Cyberethics
Modern European History 2 (French Rev-Present)
American National Government
Spanish 1
Bump. We need a Holy pally
garreth — Wed, 11/12/2008 - 13:30Bump.
We need a Holy pally for this raid who isn't just me. This may be an excellent opportunity for our guild apps.
Wrath cannot come soon enough
Grasen — Fri, 11/07/2008 - 22:47Wrath cannot come soon enough for me.
Also, based on signups, this
garreth — Fri, 11/07/2008 - 09:55Also, based on signups, this is roughly what our composition looks like:
http://raidcomp.mmo-champion.com/?c=u35t1798bb66hhdooor4nkkkf00000000000...
We're pretty optimal. You can guess as to my ideas toward composition given the raid signups.
Epat didn't post, but I think
Katibug — Fri, 11/07/2008 - 12:57Epat didn't post, but I think he's going to be lvling Pudo to 80 and wanted to raid. I dunno for sure tho...
